-

An Augusta man operating a moped was killed over the weekend after colliding with the side of a vehicle on Peach Orchard Road, authorities said.

Robert Edmond Brown, 60, was riding his moped near the intersection with Harold Road late Saturday. He collided with the side of a vehicle that was turning from Peach Orchard Road onto Harold Road, Coroner Mark Bowen said.

EMS rushed to the scene and swiftly transported Brown to Wellstar MCG Health. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Brown was pronounced dead at 12:05 a.m. Sunday.

An autopsy has been scheduled by the Coroner’s Office as part of their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
