Murder Suspect Arrested in Killing Outside Mom & Pop’s Store in Augusta

-

An arrest has been made in last week’s shooting death of an Augusta father who was fatally shot following a fight outside Mom & Pop’s Convenience Store at 2025 Broad St. in Augusta.

Frank Martin Jr., 43, was captured Friday in North Augusta and held at the Aiken County jail pending extradition. He is accused of killing 55-year-old Ricky Cooper on Oct. 19.

Authorities say that Cooper got into a fight with the suspect before the shooting. The suspect came up to Cooper’s vehicle, opened his door and punched him before the fatal gunshots were fired.

Martin is a drug-dealing felon who’s been in and out of prison his whole life for distributing cocaine, aggravated assault and false imprisonment. He was last released last summer after serving 10 years for financial identity fraud.

Cooper’s daughter said the family was “thankful he is off the street.”

“God is good,” she said Friday.
