NEW DETAILS: Augusta Man Killed After Fight Outside Broad Street Store

-

An Augusta man was fatally shot following a fight with another man Thursday night outside Mom & Pop’s Convenience Store at 2025 Broad St.

Ricky Cooper, 55, of Parnell Street, was shot at least one time and transported to Wellstar MCG ER, where he was pronounced dead at 8:02 p.m. Thursday, Coroner Mark Bowen said.

Authorities say that Cooper got into a fight with the suspect before the shooting. The suspect came up to Cooper’s vehicle, opened his door and punched him before the fatal gunshots were fired.

The suspect’s name has not been released as authorities continue looking for him. He faces a murder charge.

Cooper was being remembered online with prayers and well-wishes for his family. On his Facebook page, he is shown from last weekend enjoying a football game where his young daughter served as a cheerleader.

Tee Vandiver remembered the victim online this way: “It’s crazy how u see someone and they be gone the next couple of days.. love on what u love/ life isn’t fair…. Stay away from your foes….”
