RCSO: Woman Who Alleged Sexual Assault by Deputy Isn’t Cooperating

-

Richmond County authorities have forwarded a woman’s sexual assault allegation against a deputy to the GBI, but the sheriff’s office says she isn’t cooperating with law enforcement.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office was “made aware of an allegation of sexual assault involving one of our deputies,” sheriff’s Sgt. Kimberly Lee said by email.

The GBI was called in to investigate the complaint and an internal affairs investigation was started.

“However, at this time the complainant has not been cooperative with law enforcement,” Sgt. Lee said. “The investigation continues but no incident report is available at this time.”

A preliminary investigation by the GBI revealed that a female acquaintance of the deputy claimed that the unnamed officer had sexual intercourse with her against her will. According to the GBI, the incident reportedly occurred Sunday night at the officer’s home in Augusta.

From the GBI: “On Monday, November 8, 2021, at approximately 12:55AM, the GBI was requested by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a sexual assault allegation made against an off-duty Richmond County deputy. Preliminary investigation revealed that a female acquaintance of the deputy alleged that the deputy had sexual intercourse with her against her will. The incident was alleged to have occurred at the deputy’s residence located in Augusta, GA during the evening hours of Sunday, November 7th. The investigation is ongoing.”
