RICHMOND COUNTY: Four People Shot in Drive-By at Paul’s IGA in Augusta

-

Four people were shot Tuesday night in an apparent drive-by shooting at the Paul’s IGA on Greene Street, marking the second mass shooting in Augusta in six months.

Richmond County deputies were called just after 6 p.m. Tuesday to the store at 2 Greene St., where they found two victims. They were made aware that two additional victims had driven themselves to the hospital, sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb Lee said.

“The vehicle involved was described as a dark gray or black suv last seen traveling south on East Boundary,” Sgt. Lee said.

The names and the conditions of the victims were not immediately available, but Coroner Mark Bowen said he had not been called.

“The intersection of East Boundary and Greene Street has been shut down at this time,” Sgt. Lee said.

The incident marks the second mass shooting in Augusta this year. On May 13, a motorcycle gang shootout left two dead, four wounded and 12 facing murder and gun charges. Germayne Farrell, 51, of Daytona Beach, and Keith Coates, 30, of Valdosta, were killed in the shootings.

The Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit, defines a mass shooting as an event with a “minimum of four victims shot, either injured or killed, not including any shooter who may also have been killed or injured in the incident.”
