RICHMOND COUNTY: Suspects in Separate Murders Caught After Wild Augusta Chase

-

A high-speed chase with a stolen Jaguar on Father’s Day ended with Richmond County deputies capturing two local teens wanted in separate murders.

Vinston Moultrie, 18, of Grovetown, was the second suspect in the April 26 shootings that killed 24-year-old Usaini Yunusa of Austell and injured 20-year-old Kobe Burns of Augusta.

Ike Lang, 18, of Augusta, was one of three suspects wanted for the June 1 shooting death of 15-year-old Jordan Gaynor outside the Get-N-Go on Windsor Spring Road. Lang was also wanted for using an assault rifle to shoot into a Birnam Place residence on Jan. 19 that injured two adults. Fortunately, the gunfire missed two infant children inside.

Both suspected killers were inside a 2019 Jaguar F-Pace that was reported stolen near Atlanta and ended up around 1 a.m. Sunday on the streets of downtown Augusta. Moultrie was driving, authorities said.

Two officers tried to pull him over. Instead, Moultrie sped up, reaching speeds of 90 in a 35 mph zone while traveling through Broad Street and Telfair Street, authorities said.

Officers ultimately conducted PIT maneuvers that forced the vehicle into a tree in a parking lot off John C. Calhoun Expressway. Four suspects jumped out and ran.

Moultrie was found in a creek near the underpass. Lang was found hiding in some bushes near Greene Street. A gun was found near Lang, described as a Glock 19x with a full automatic switch and a 31-round magazine loaded with a round in the chamber and a threaded barrel. That is why one of his charges is possession of a machine gun.

Officers set up a perimeter and another passenger was captured: Eric Gamboa-Carson, 18, of Grovetown, was charged with theft by receiving stolen property and obstruction. The fourth suspect was not found.

The chase caused serious damage to a sheriff’s patrol car, and it was towed from the scene. The Jaguar was also damaged.

All three suspects were being held Monday at the Richmond County Detention Center.

Moultrie is charged with murder, aggravated assault, weapon possession and additional offenses related to the chase. Lang is facing a dozen or so charges, including murder, weapon possession, aggravated assault and more connected to the chase and the Jan. 19 shootings on Birnam Place.
