Towel-Faced Robber Who Shot Aiken Clerk Has Been Caught

Aiken officers arrested robbery suspect Swiss Tyrone Council on Saturday night on the 200 Block of Cherokee Street SE.

Council was taken into custody without incident.

Council was wanted for the Oct. 8 armed robbery and assault at the Enmark convenience store located at 502 York Street NE, where the store clerk was shot in the leg during the robbery. The clerk was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

During the robbery, the suspect kept his face partially obscured with a white towel covering his lower face.

Council is facing charges of Armed Robbery, Attempted Murder, Possession of a Handgun During a Violent Crime, and Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol.  Council has previously been identified as a violent offender by the Aiken Department of Public Safety’s Safe Communities program.
