WANTED: 3rd Aiken Woman Accused of Helping Suspect Escape Arrest in Boy’s Murder

-

A third Aiken woman is wanted for helping hide the killer of a local boy last month.

Edward F. McKenzie Jr.

Warrants for accessory after the fact to murder have been filed against Jennifer Lynn Oakman in connection with the death of 12-year-old Edward “Chevy” McKenzie Jr., Aiken police say. A warrant says Oakman knew a murder suspect had killed the boy on Oct. 10 and assisted him in escaping arrest by providing false and misleading information to police.

Oakman is the same woman arrested last month for DUI and cocaine possession, and she was accused in 2013 of trafficking crack cocaine and marijuana possession. She received a youthful offender sentence in that older case.

Authorities also have charged Erica Smith and Tashia Limehouse with accessory after the fact of murder in the boy’s death. Arrest warrants say the women also knew one of the suspects had committed murder and provided false and misleading information.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Oakman is urged to call Aiken Department of Public Safety at 803-642-7620 or CRIMESTOPPERS. Callers may remain anonymous and may receive a cash reward up to $1000.

Last month, ADPS officials identified Hykeem Hampton, 25, and Demetrius Williams, 31, as the men responsible for the drive-by murder of McKenzie. A 13-year-old boy also sustained a gunshot to the leg and was treated at the scene.

Police say the shooters targeted the house but did not intent to harm the victims. At 3:45 a.m. Oct. 11, the two suspects reportedly sprayed bullets at the fifth-grader’s family home on Wyman Street in the Crossland Park neighborhood.

Hykeem Hampton

According to reports, McKenzie was hit at least once and officials pronounced him dead at the scene. He attended North Aiken Elementary School, where he celebrated his birthday two days  before.

Police have charged Hampton with murder, discharging firearms into a dwelling, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, according to jail records.

Demetrius Williams

According to reports, police first arrested Hampton on Oct. 14 and seized his cellphone as evidence.

Williams is on the run and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to reports. He stands 5 feet 10 inches and weighs about 185 pounds.

Anyone with information about Williams’ whereabouts is encouraged to call Aiken Public Safety at (803) 642-7740.
