Augusta Mom Repeatedly Whips 8-Year-Old Son with Wire, Cops Say

-

An Augusta mother was arrested Saturday for repeatedly whipping her 8-year-old son with a wire, authorities said.

Fantasia Lambert, 30, of Bolt Drive, Augusta, was charged with cruelty to children in the first degree, a felony.

The boy’s godmother called the cops after realizing what Lambert had done. The godmother told officers that Lambert came over to help bathe the boy Friday night. The mother went upstairs and became mad at her son “because he put a hole in a brand new air mattress,” a sheriff’s report says.

The mother left her son at the home to sleep, and the godmother later saw marks on the child. The boy said his mother had hit him with a wire. An arrest warrant says Lambert caused her child “cruel physical pain” by striking him multiple times with “a chord.”

Lambert remained in the Richmond County Detention Center on Monday evening with an additional hold for probation and parole. She has a long list of convictions for shoplifting, theft and deposit account fraud.
