Bicyclist Finds Body with Gunshot Wound on Lonely Road in Beech Island

-

A bicyclist made a gruesome discovery while riding Monday morning on a lonely road in Beech Island: the body of a man who had been shot.

The biker called police from his phone around 8 a.m. Monday and let emergency dispatchers know he had found a black male lying in the road near 124 Spann Hammond Road.

“When deputies and Aiken County EMS arrived on scene, the victim appeared to have an apparent gunshot wound to his body and was pronounced deceased on scene,” sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said in a press release.

Investigators and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office were called to the scene. The victim has not been named, pending identification and notification to family.

“Community assistance is important with any investigation. We ask that if anyone has any information, we encourage them to contact the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 648-6811,” Capt. Abdullah said. “You can provide information anonymously through Midlands Crime Stoppers. Your tip could earn you a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for any crime.”
