Richmond County authorities seized six motorcycles and charged one teenager after a chase with a mass gathering of riders.

According to a press release, deputies responded Sunday evening to a mass gathering of dirt bikes and four-wheelers riding in the roadway causing a hazard.

“These illegal motorists left the Bobby Jones Expressway driving East on Gordon Hwy accompanied by a truck that blocked the intersection for them,” a press release says.   “Deputies engaged this group, which resulted in the illegal motorists dispersing and separating.”

Numerous deputies continued chasing these individuals which resulted in two minor accidents.  Many of the suspects ran on foot and were not caught, the release says.

An unnamed teenager was charged and released to their parents.  Six of the motorcycles were confiscated pending application for forfeiture.

“Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to review video recordings of other suspects and those that fled,” the release says. ” Sheriff Richard Roundtree cautions this is reckless, illegal and creates an air of lawlessness that will not be tolerated.  The Sheriff’s Office will hold these and other individuals accountable that endanger the lives of Richmond County citizens.”
